This is indeed an all in one software solution for digitizing your vinyl or cassettes. It comes with easy to use track splitting function and automated click and scratch removal. It will look up track listings and album art for your vinyl album directly from the web, so if you transfer the songs to your mobile device you will have original art shown on the display while listening. If you are new to this type of software, no worries there is an extensive rollover help guide for newbies. On the other side if you consider yourself an audiophile and advanced user you will be able to use many of the advanced features like filtering out tape hiss, hum and rumble. Next to filtering you can use the normalization feature and graphic equalizer and you will be able to perform software RIAA equalization, during recording as well as after the process is complete. #ALPINESOFT VINYLSTUDIO SOFTWARE SOFTWARE# The best thing about editing and converting with VinylStudio is that all editing is non-destructive so your original recordings are not changed in any way.I haven't spent a great deal of time with VinylStudio but from a high-level, Spin It Again and VinylStudio are both designed specifically for digitizing vinyl. Their UI's, feature sets and workflows are all in support of that task.

I have not come across any other programs for Windows that are both created for vinyl ripping and have such an extensive feature set.Īudacity does a great number of tasks but it doesn't do them all. It can't look up album info on the Internet and its tagging facilities are limited. It can split tracks based on silence but VinylStudio, and, I believe, Spin It Again, can split based on the track list it retrieves from the Internet. I don't know much about the de-clicking algorithms in VS but most people say ClickRepair does an excellent job. They also say you need spend time with it on each LP to get the best results. It's not just a press-a-button-and-be-done type of program. You could probably take any individual task in VS or SIA and find a program that does a better job at it. The two biggest advantage to these programs are efficiency and an appropriate and extensive set of tools to get the job done. I've used VinylStudio for a short time, but not for the recording step. I record to an Edirol R09HR SD-based flash recorder, de-click with ClickRepair, and then use VinylStudio for tagging, album art, track splitting, and saving to FLAC.

There are a few areas where I feel that VinylStudio could improve. The first five are simple UI usability tweaks. Then comes the hard stuff - which may not be feasible, if the goal of VinylStudio is towards simplicity rather than high-flexibility/configurability.ġ. Better detection of the "side start" point (needle set down) when working with imported sound files. If the recording is done from within VinylStudio it can be set to pause until it 'hears' the needle drop, so this probably would not be an issue (haven't tried it). When the needle drop is actually part of the sound file, however. as it often is with an imported sound file. then the spot that VinylStudio selects as the start of the first track is sometimes incorrect. Sometimes it's prior to the needle drop other times it's after the needle drop but as much as 4 seconds before the start of the first track (long lead-in).

This throws off all subsequent track breaks, requiring manual tweaking to fix the break points.Ģ. Support for remembering the size and position of the main window. I prefer to use the program maximized or with a larger window. But on each run it opens to some apparently fixed, smaller size.ģ. * The 'File imported successfully' dialog that is displayed after importing an external sound file.Ībility to turn off some of the forced confirmation dialogs.
